The 1st Annual Walk for Independence was held on Sunday January 17th in Huntington Beach Central Park, Celebrating and Advocating for Freedom, Choice, and Independence for people with Developmental Disabilities. A little history about the organization-Project Independence was established in 1977 by dedicated families of people with developmental disabilities who envisioned more for their loved ones than lives of segregation, prejudice and institutionalization. This group of parents came together to form Project Independence to allow people with developmental disabilities to live in the community and to exercise freedom and personal choice over their own lives. The Independent Living program was one of the first of its kind in Orange County, and now serves hundreds of people, providing support that allows people the tools and the confidence to take their rightful place in the community.
PPI West Insurance was proud to sponosor the event in helping raise money and support for the organization to expand as well as offer some of the children some wonderful face painting.
